On the road again: Navigating the South Island of New Zealand by public transport

Writer's picture: Solo TravellerSolo Traveller

Tomorrow is the start of my next exciting New Zealand adventure.

I am venturing over to the South Island for the very first time on an 18-day journey using only public transport!

Remember the classic film 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles'?

Well that is sort of the theme for my trip this time.

  • Flight from Taupo to Wellington

  • The iconic InterIslander ferry across the Cook Straight to Picton

  • West Coast bus route via Nelson, Greymouth and the Fanz Josef Glacier

  • Eventually reaching Queenstown

  • Two epic tours to Milford Sound and Mt Cook

  • Before venturing further south to Dunedin and Invercargill

  • Southernmost point at Bluff

  • Heading back north to Christchurch

  • Return to the North Island

It will be 18 days of non-stop adventures and epic scenery, creating memories and hopefully giving me a taste of the South Island for possible future visits.

Each day I will be giving updates on my Facebook and Instagram social media platforms, so watch this space to see what I get up to.

And obviously I will be updating the posts on here as and when I can over the next 18 days.

Hope you enjoy my next big trip here in New Zealand.
